Dialogue without limits

From April 26 to April 27, 2023, Dni Minska took place in Novosibirsk, during which round tables and meetings were held, and a number of official documents on cooperation were signed. One of the main objectives of the thematic event was to achieve the goal of economic and cultural convergence of cities.
During the holidays in Novosibirsk, the sister city of Minsk, events were held dedicated to the issues of cooperation between cities in various fields, including culture, education and patriotic education of youth.
As part of the development of international cooperation between the Minsk State Linguistic University and the federal state budgetary educational institution "Novosibirsk State Technical University", educational events were held prepared by the staff of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation No. 1 of the Faculty of Translation.
On April 26, all interested students were able to participate in the presentation of the project "Family stories about the war in students' translations" in a remote format. Students and teachers of the Minsk State Linguistic University came up with their projects, having studied numerous historical sources for this: documents, testimonies and photographs found in the family archive, stories and memories. The students presented translations of their essays into English, and the teachers of the department commented on the peculiarities of the translation of documentary and military discourse, discussed translation options with the students.
The program of events continued with an online game of a professional orientation for students of the specialties of the translation profile of NSTU and MSLU, which took place on April 27. During the game, students had the opportunity to meet and compete with their colleagues from NSTU.
The goal of the game is to broaden one's general knowledge, apply translation competencies to solve professional problems in practice, and develop the ability to work in a team. The participants needed the speed of reaction, knowledge in the field of terminology, etymology, translation theory, regional studies and ethics of the translator. The teams solved complex translation problems, reflected on ethical issues, and also racked their brains over deciphering abbreviations, remembered Latin catchphrases and modern slang. All this the students found out with the help of the teachers who developed this project - Zhdanovich M.A., Kudryavtseva E.S., Ilyushchenko I.S. The game was judged by a competent jury, which included: the head of the department Karapetova E.G., associate professor Minina V.G., senior lecturer Titova A.V. and teacher Gurova T.S. The teams were trained by the heads of translation laboratories: from the side of MSLU - Zhbankov M.M., from the side of NSTU - Kondrashova E.V.
One of the main goals of the events was to strengthen ties between Minsk State Linguistic University and Novosibirsk State Technical University, as well as the development of new models of international cooperation between universities.
