Conference of Russian studies scholars took place at Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University

29 October 2026

International educational conference "Russian in the context of multiculturalism" was held at Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University. Researchers from the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan and Cuba participated in the conference. As a result, more than 120 applications from these four countries were received.

The conference is being held for the second year in a row on the initiative of Ekaterina Serdyukova, head of the department of Slavic philology at Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University, with the support of the Russian World Foundation. This time the participants discussed how to observe speech etiquette on the Internet, teach Russian classics, as well as teach foreigners. A separate topic was "Borrowing and its impact on the Russian language". "To take away a person's language means to take away his identity." – outlined Yuri Mashin, rector of Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University.

The plenary session was opened by Elena Tarasova, doctor of pedagogical sciences, head of the department of Russian language (as a foreign language) at Russian Technological University (MIREA). She talked about changing the rules of communication under the influence of the Internet and technology and reminded that the native language should be protected and its norms should be observed, since the abuse of slang in business speech makes it difficult to understand each other: "An educated person must speak a normative literary language."

The scientific program of the conference included a practical part as well. After the plenary session the university students held a master class "Russian language without borders" for foreign students. Nigina Babajanova, a master student, who studies at our university within a joint educational program with Chirchik Pedagogical University, teaches in Uzbekistan both native speakers and those who are just starting to learn it. She admits the following - "Russian language is wonderful, multifaceted and very beautiful."

Language is not only a way of communication, but also a part of our culture and who we are.
