International Scientific and Practical Conference "Youth. Spirituality. Fatherland: Orthodoxy and Culture"
On November 24, the international scientific and practical conference "Youth. Spirituality. Fatherland: Orthodoxy and Culture" was held at Brest State Technical University. It was organized as part of the diocesan stage of the 34th International Christmas Educational Readings "Enlightenment and Morality: Personality Development and the Challenges of the Times."
This traditional conference is being held as part of the cooperation program between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Orthodox Church, and, in particular, the cooperation program between the Brest Diocese and Brest State Technical University for 2021-2025.
The conference opened with a performance by the Brest State Technical University's "Belaya Vezha" folk academic choir, performing "Christmas Etudes." The floor was then given to Natalia Petrovna Yalova, Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work, who warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the relevance of the event's theme.
The plenary session, "Orthodoxy and National Culture: Losses and Gains of the Past, Visions of the Future," was opened by His Eminence John, Archbishop of Brest and Kobrin, Associate Professor at the Minsk Theological Academy, PhD in Theology, and Honorary Professor at Brest State Technical University. His Eminence delivered a welcoming address and a report entitled "Moral Values: The Present and Future of Humanity." His Eminence noted that without strengthening spiritual values, a generation risks losing touch with its historical and cultural roots, which encompasses the need to incorporate them into educational programs, family traditions, and public life.
When discussing traditional values, we don't simply list them; we imbue them with living meaning, finding practical ways to embody them in schools, universities, and every family. The conference became an important platform for dialogue between representatives of science, the church, and youth, helping to strengthen spiritual values and their role in modern society.
