BSTU Expands its Cooperation with North (Arctic) Federal University Named after M.V. Lomonosov

This year Belarusian State Technological University and North (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov signed a Roadmap of Cooperation that envisages a wide range of activities in the field of education and research:
academic mobility of staff and students (visit-lecturing, internships and short-term trainings, professional development courses);
double-degree programs, joint projects, summer/winter schools, contests;
participation in conferences and similar events hosted by the parties;
training of PhD researchers;
joint publications, exchange of best practices, etc.
Following the Roadmap, our University hosted Yakov Kazakov, D.Sc. (Engineering), Professor of the Department of Pulp and Paper Technology, North (Arctic) Federal University, on May 15-19. Professor Kazakov is a prominent researcher in the field of pulp and paper mechanics and structural-morphological properties of fibrous materials for pulp-and-paper industry, author of over 200 scientific and methodological publications, textbooks, monographs, invention certificates and patents.
The visit of Prof. Kazakov was supported by BSTU Department of Chemical Processing of Wood and International Relations Office.
The guest had an opportunity to visit the Department of Chemical Processing of Wood, its applied research laboratory for knowledge-intensive technology of pulp-and-paper and wood chemical industries, production of wood-based boards and plastics, BSTU xylotheque (wood library) and university museum.
Professor Kazakov also delivered a short course of lectures for students of Chemical Processing of Wood study program and MSc students of Plant Polymers-Based Goods and Materials Production program. The lectures focused on such areas as prospects and trends of pulp-and-paper industry and technology; paper-forming capacity of fibrous semi-finished goods: modern view through fibre analyzer; deformation properties of paper and cardboard under tension: measurements and uses; assessment of technological parameters of corrugated cardboard and corrugated packaging.
