Friendly relations through education. Zimbabwean students opt for BNTU
Every year Belarusian National Technical University welcomes more and more students from Zimbabwe.
This became possible after the historic visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko to the Republic of Zimbabwe in January-February 2023. Since then, the two countries have jointly achieved tangible practical results in many areas of development, which was noted by the Belarusian leader during the recent visit of the President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa to our country in mid-May 2025.
During the bilateral meeting, it was noted that education remains one of the strategic areas of bilateral cooperation. Following the agreements of the presidents of the two countries, already during the 2023 admission campaign, BNTU welcomed the first four Zimbabwean citizens who came to study in Belarus.
Today, more than 60% of all Zimbabwean students of Belarusian universities study at BNTU. About 60 Zimbabwean citizens are studying at BNTU, which makes BNTU one of the key centers for training engineering personnel for this African country. Of the 59 BNTU students, 19 Zimbabweans have already decided on their majors and are finishing their first year, 40 are students of the preparatory department for foreign citizens.
It should be noted that Zimbabwean students easily adapt to Minsk thanks to the help of teachers and new friends. They study Belarusian culture, actively participate in the social life of their alma-mater, dance at events at the diplomatic mission of Zimbabwe in Belarus.
The exhibition "My Belarus", which was organized for students at the end of January 2025, was not only an educational but also an inspiring event that contributed to a deeper understanding of the richness and diversity of Belarusian traditional culture.
And on May 7, 2025, Tigere Angela, a student of the preparatory department from Zimbabwe, together with her classmate from China, Liu Zhixin, performed the song "Katyusha" in Russian at the annual military-patriotic song competition. Their performance managed to reach jury’s hearts and they awarded a special jury diploma for the originality and soulfulness of the performance.
With the advent of the 2025-2026 admission campaign, BNTU expects new applicants from Zimbabwe. Why do they choose BNTU? High-quality education, friendly atmosphere and career prospects.
Cooperation between BNTU and Zimbabwe in the field of education and university science continues to expand. The plans include conducting joint research and developing double degree programs.
