Nepali polytech graduates back to alma-mater

22 August 2025

On August 19, 2025, Dean of the Faculty of International Cooperation P.I. Shirvel held a meeting with graduates of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (as our Belarusian National Technical University was called in the 80s) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

A delegation of six graduates led by a graduate of the construction faculty of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute Narayan Bhakta Shrestha, who studied in various specialties at the construction, architecture, energy and road construction faculties and graduated from BPI in 1984 and 1989, visited their alma mater during their visit to Belarus in August 2025 to immerse themselves in the memories of their student years and discuss issues of mutually beneficial cooperation. They remember many of their teachers and classmates by name, they have not lost touch with their deans and some of their teachers and still sometimes call and mail them to congratulate on holidays and preserve the dear memories of their youth.

Now they are all retired, but they lead an active life, travel, and continue to do business. They remember with gratitude our university in those years and the opportunities to gain knowledge and practical skills that were provided to them and which gave them a pass to a stable life with good work and high interesting positions there in their homeland.

In his welcoming speech, P.I. Shirvel expressed gratitude to the guests for not forgetting their alma mater and finding time to return to us, stressed that their presence at BNTU reminds us all of how important the connection between generations is and, of course, will serve as an inspiration for future potential applicants from Nepal: “You are the pride of our university, and we are always glad to see you there. I hope that your memories of student life will warm you for a long time, and the knowledge and experience gained here and which have become a reliable foundation in your life will be helping you non-stop. The main result of our productive cooperation should be new Nepali students entering BNTU.”

Now, in the anniversary year of BNTU’s 105th anniversary since its foundation, our Nepali graduates expressed a desire to intensify interaction so that more people in Nepal know about the opportunities that BNTU provides.

Thus, Narayan Bhakta Shrestha, as part of the discussion of cooperation aspects, proposed to organize events in Nepal with his help, providing for the popularization of BNTU educational services in this country: an education exhibition and BNTU Days in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu.

In addition, issues of academic mobility of both students and teachers of BNTU were discussed.

After the official meeting and photo session both in the main building of BNTU and against its background, the Nepalese visited their faculties, graduate architects managed to talk with the dean of the architecture faculty Chanturia Y.V.

The Nepalese expressed a great desire to visit BNTU during the celebration of its 105th anniversary and promised to celebrate it in Nepal if they cannot come to Minsk in December 2025.

This meeting with graduates is a significant event for strengthening ties between BNTU and its foreign graduates, and opened new horizons for the development of BNTU international relations.
