The Christmas Bridge of Friendship: A Journey Through Gomel's Iconic Sites

15 January 2026

To strengthen intercultural ties and introduce Gomel's historical heritage, fourth-year students of the Gomel State Medical University's Faculty of Medicine and Prevention (Marta Litvinenko, Anastasia Starushkova and Alina Shkirich) organized and conducted a thematic excursion for students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

The tour itinerary included key historical and architectural landmarks of the city, revealing its rich history and cultural diversity:

  • The Rumyantsev and Paskevich Palace – a majestic neoclassical complex on the banks of the Sozh River, a former center of social and cultural life;
    • The Chapel-Mausoleum – a unique architectural monument of the second half of the 19th century in the Russian Renaissance style, which served as the ancestral burial vault of the Paskevich family;
    • The Gomel History Museum (Hunting Lodge) – a historic building built in 1820 formerly a guest house for distinguished visitors;
    • The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul – an example of Russian classicism and the spiritual symbol of the city founded by statesman Nikolai Rumyantsev;
    • The "First Settler" monument – a bronze sculpture symbolizing the legendary founders of Gomel and the centuries-long history of the development of these lands.
