Study without borders: how an IRNITU student discovered Belarus

11 September 2025

Alina Shulgina is a student at the Irkutsk National Research Technical University (IRNITU), studying under a special joint program with the Belarusian State University of Economics. This program allows students to obtain diplomas from two universities. In the usual format, students attend in-person classes at IRNITU, and remote lectures are given by teachers from BSEU.

As part of academic mobility, Alina came to Minsk for one semester to complete part of her studies at a Belarusian university.

Alina learned about the program during a visit by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Marketing and Logistics of BSEU to IRNITU. The opportunity to study abroad immediately interested her:

“This is a great way not only to gain new knowledge, but also to go beyond the usual, to get to know another country, its culture and people,” says the student.

Alina is currently studying at the Faculty of Marketing and Logistics, specializing in Marketing. The atmosphere at BSEU, according to the girl, turned out to be friendly and comfortable:

"My classmates greeted me very warmly, everyone is friendly, ready to help and support".

Although Alina has not yet noticed any significant differences in the educational process, she is watching with interest how the education system in Belarus is organized. This is her first visit to the country, and she has already managed to discover the beauty of Minsk. She was especially impressed by the National Library and the All Saints Church:

"These places amazed me with their architecture and atmosphere. You can really feel the spirit of history and culture here"/

In her free time, Alina plans to visit nearby cities to get to know the country better.

"If you have the opportunity to go to study at another university or country, be sure to agree. This is a chance to learn more about the world, about yourself, learn to be flexible and open," the student confidently states.
