For the first time, the International Summer School on Applied Demography of the CIS countries will be held at BSU (16 Leningradskaya Street). Its work is scheduled from 25 to 30 September.
Applied demography involves the analysis of data on the population, its settlement, composition and reproduction for the purpose of practical application of information in the field of public sector and business. Today, BSU is famous for its scientific school on demography, has extensive experience in using scientific knowledge in applied fields of development of modern society. For example, in the social sphere, regional regulation and forecasting of demographic processes, GIS technologies, etc.
It is planned that the school will allow BSU scientists to share their experience with future specialists, to activate their interest in cooperation through joint project activities in the field of demography.
The forum was attended by about 20 students of economic and geographical specialties from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. These are representatives of BSU, Belarusian State Economic University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, HSE University, St. Petersburg State University, Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov, National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, etc.
The training program includes lectures on the socio-economic consequences of demographic development; the impact of the demographic factor and its consequences for society; monitoring and uation of social policy; the use of GIS technologies in applied demography, etc. Leading Belarusian experts in the field of demography and GIS technologies will conduct master classes on working in the ArcGIS software package, geoprocessing of spatial data. Students will also get acquainted with the open statistical databases of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus and develop research projects on the subject of the school.
At the end of the training, the participants will be awarded certificates, and the best scientific works will be awarded with diplomas.
It should be noted that this event will be held within the framework of the international technical assistance project «Strengthening the scientific and educational potential of the Republic of Belarus in the field of collecting, analyzing and using demographic data to achieve Sustainable Development Goals» with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
