Meeting of students from China with the pupils from Gymnasium № 1

25 February 2026

On February 21, as part of the "Friendship Without Borders" project, Chinese students from Euphrosyne Polotskaya State University of Polotsk met with pupils from Gymnasium № 1 in Novopolotsk.

This time, the meeting was held in a new and unusual format. At the beginning of the event, the university students participated in a woodworking workshop. The teacher for labor and informatics, Alexey Kachan, provided a concise safety briefing on the operation of the machines. Afterward, the students eagerly started crafting memorable items.

The creative workshop brought together not only the foreign students and gymnasium pupils but also the students' parents. The joint work united the generations: fathers, along with their sons, crafted candle holders for their mothers in honor of the upcoming spring holiday, International Women's Day on March 8. After all, the most valuable gift is one that is made by hand.

Following the workshop, guests were introduced to the traditions of one of the most cherished Belarusian folk holidays – Maslenitsa. In the welcoming library, Irina Shupenko provided insights into the customs and traditions surrounding the holiday. The Belarusian students prepared pancakes, which symbolize Maslenitsa.

During tea time, students and schoolchildren engaged in a lively discussion, exchanging impressions, asking questions, and sharing cultural traditions from their respective countries. Wu Huiyin, a student from the preparatory department, introduced the unique aspects of celebrating the New Year in China.

The students and schoolchildren left not only with their memorable creations but also with vivid impressions, new acquaintances, and a desire to continue their communication. The theme of the next meeting will be spring holidays.
