The Belarusian State Medical University launched a pilot project “Testing models of practical training at the I stage of higher education in the specialty 1-79 01 01 “General Medicine” at the educational establishment “Belarusian State Medical University”, which is a 4-year English-language educational program based on the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) International Standard for Medical Education aimed at training students from Israel, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada. The Program was designed for those who have already received higher education in related medical specialties. The program enables these students to continue their education beginning from the third course.

Belarusian State Medical University is enlisted into the World Directory of Medical Schools under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO). BSMU is accredited according to the standards of the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), has a certificate of compliance with the DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 standard in the German accreditation system DAkkS, a certificate of compliance with the requirements of STB ISO 9001-2015.
The high merits of BSMU are marked by republican and international awards: the Grand Prix of the International Business Award “Leader of the Year” (2021); Medical University Award (based on the results of expert assessment by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR), 2022); diploma of the winner of the competition “Best Exporter 2023” in the category “Education” (2023).
Realizing the importance of participation in the global educational and scientific processes, Belarusian State Medical University is actively working to establish new partnerships and develop international cooperation with foreign universities, scientific and practical centers and international organizations from more than 25 countries. The Belarusian State Medical University trains more than 7000 undergraduate and postgraduate students including 2000 foreign citizens from 60 countries of the world. The training of medical specialists includes several stages: the preparatory department, the higher medical education (undergraduate), postgraduate education (Master’s Degree program, clinical residency, PhD Degree course and Doctoral course), advanced training and retraining of medical specialists.
The educational process at the university is practice-oriented. On average, about 70% of academic hours are seminars and practical classes held in laboratories. The University actively implements innovative educational technologies and elements of distance learning. In order to encourage students’ independent work, the electronic educational and methodological complexes in Russian and English have been introduced within the framework of free and open-source learning management system (Moodle). The University has introduced a Students Performance Register (Electronic Gradebook).
