BSU and East China Normal University to Enhance Collaboration
3 January 2025
BSU and East China Normal University (ECNU) are set to intensify their cooperation. This topic was central to discussions during a meeting between the Rector of BSU Andrei Karol and ECNU President Qian Xuhong, which took place during an official visit of the leading Belarusian university’s delegation to China.
During the meeting, the Rector of BSU Andrei Karol emphasized the importance of maintaining existing agreements and discussing new avenues for partnership development. He noted that collaboration with China is a priority for international cooperation in higher education, not only for BSU, but for Belarus as a whole. “Over the past 30 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries, our friendship has become long-term, and our relationships have become based on trust,” stated Andrei Karol.
The current meeting served as a logical continuation of the partnership, aimed at organizing joint research, producing scientific publications in the field of optics, and establishing a joint humanities and cultural center. One of the central discussion points was the prospect of resuming academic mobility programs for students and researchers from BSU and ECNU. As Rector Andrei Karol noted, bilateral exchanges of philology students were previously conducted on a regular basis. BSU students were frequently sent to ECNU for study as part of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in education. Additionally, earlier this year, Director of the Center for Russian Studies at ECNU, Liu Jun, completed a research internship at the Faculty of History at BSU, where he delivered an open lecture for students and conducted research in university archives and libraries. The meeting concluded with agreements to further develop the discussed issues.
