BSTU foreign students went on "Hyervyaty-Mikhalishki-Blue Lakes" trip
June 16 was another marvelous day for foreign students of the preparatory department of the Belarusian State Technological University. This time Burmese and Ecuadorian students enjoyed the excursion “Hyervyaty - Mikhalishki - Blue Lakes”.
The first stop was Hyervyaty, a village near the state border between Belarus and Lithuania. Hyervyaty is an agrotown in Astravyets District, Grodno Oblast, Belarus. It serves as the administrative center of Hyervyaty selsoviet. In the agrotown students visited one of the most famous Belarusian landmarks, the Church of the Holy Trinity.
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a typical example of the Neogothic style. Its height is 61 meter, and it's one of the tallest churches in Belarus. The temple has three naves and a small transept, the naves are separated from each other by two rows of five columns each. There is no apse behind the presbytery. A characteristic element of the architecture of the temple are multi-stage buttresses, turning into flying buttresses. The walls of the temple are cut through with narrow lancet window openings in niches.
Next, the students visited the agricultural town of Mikhalishki, where there is a defensive temple built in 1653. The deliberately austere, monumental appearance of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel has undergone almost no changes over the past 350 years.
“Blue Lakes” is a hilly-lake complex and one of the most beautiful natural places in Belarus, part of the Narochansky National Park. The places here are very picturesque! The children walked along an ecological trail with observation decks and places to relax. There are signs and information boards along the entire trail.
Route length: 4 km. The eco-trail passes through a coniferous forest and pine forest, along the banks of picturesque lakes and across the Stracha River. There were several lakes along the way: Glublyu, Glubelka and Mertvoe.
Time flew by. The students really enjoyed the excursion and the nature of Belarus.
