The bread of my land is a symbol of peace

16 November 2023

Uzbek flatbread is not just a recipe. It is a story about times, people, and bread. Such a story was told and shown by Uzbek students in dormitory No. 6.
The Students’ council of the dormitory was invited by foreign students to a master class on baking bread. They prepared a presentation about their country, introduced the guests of the evening to the range of bread baked in their homeland, and discovered new culinary secrets and features of Uzbek flatbreads.
In Uzbekistan, bread occupies a significant place in the culture. There are many ways of cooking, but each of them requires manual labor. To create a pattern on a flat cake, ‘chekich’ is used (a special tool in cooking).
Because the bread is round in shape, it sometimes serves as a plate. Various sweets, shashlyk, roast and boiled meat are placed on top of it. In Uzbekistan it is customary to say goodbye to guests with bread, gifts and sweets.
What's a flatbread without tea? Uzbek people are very fond of tea. Hot bread and green tea are already a symbol of Uzbek hospitality. It was demonstrated by students from Uzbekistan.
Nomozjon Shamsiev, student of the Faculty of Humanities: ‘It was my first time participating in a master class, I really liked it. I am happy to introduce the Belarusian students to the national cuisine of Uzbekistan. I was taught to bake bread in my family. I love to cook and to meet guests’
Valeria Samultseva, student of the Faculty of Law: ‘Thank you very much for the opportunity to participate in such an interesting event. It's cool when you have the opportunity not only to learn about dishes of another nationality, but also to taste them. It is important to note that we also talked a lot with international students at the event. It seems to me that such events bring us very close and open up a lot of new things’
Artem Levko, student of the Faculty of Information Technologies: ‘The students from Uzbekistan invited the Students’ council of the dormitory to get acquainted and spend the evening together, tell us about their country and introduce us to the national cuisine of Uzbekistan. They prepared incredibly delicious pilaf and showed a master class on baking bread. It was great! The guys really tried to please us, and we are grateful to them for that. It was a great evening, full of delicious food and interesting conversations’
The evening passed in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Such events help to understand the traditions and customs of the peoples of other countries and to feel like one student family.
