A BSU lyceum student wins a bronze medal at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence

Evgeny Shkumat, a graduate of the BSU Lyceum named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky, won a bronze medal at the 3rd International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI-2026). Timur Sivko, a student from Gymnasium No. 1 in Grodno, was awarded a silver medal. The national team also included Rostislav Svechnikov from the BSU Lyceum named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky and Vadim Vozmitel from Gymnasium No. 1 in Slutsk. Alexey Tolstikov, an Associate Professor at the Department of Computational Mathematics of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at BSU, served as the team leader.

Notably, this is the first time Belarusian school students have participated in this tournament. The team members were selected from the top performers at Engineers of the Future, the Republican technical creativity competition for students.

The Olympiad concluded on August 8 in Astana, Kazakhstan. It brought together over 600 participants from 100 countries. The intellectual competition featured both individual and team rounds. The first round consisted of tasks in machine learning, computer vision, and text and audio processing. In the second round, the participants had to demonstrate their skills in robot control and developing neural network systems. 

The International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence aims to support talented youth and stimulate school students' interest in IT technologies.
