The Huawei award “For Outstanding Mentoring” was presented to the head of the Department of Discrete Mathematics and Algorithms at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of BSU, Vladimir Kotov. He was awarded this right for many years of fruitful preparation of BSU students for international programming competitions. The first awarding ceremony took place this year, and was won by 14 of the best organizers and coaches of student teams from Russia, China, Singapore, Chile, Mexico, Switzerland and Poland.
Under the leadership of Vladimir Kotov, BSU students became finalists of the World Student Programming Championship 22 times. Let us remind you that over more than 20 years of participation in the World Programming Championship, BSU students won one gold, three silver and one bronze medals. In addition, since 1998, the leading university has been organizing the regional qualifying quarterfinal competitions of the championship.
It is worth saying that Vladimir Kotov was awarded three times with special cups at the World Programming Championship among students as an honored coach.
The award ceremony took place at the end of August in Dongguan (China) as part of the ICPC Challenge Championship powered by Huawei. About 70 students and teachers from 17 countries took part in the competition. BSU was represented in the intellectual competition by FAMCS sophomore Daria Gnedko and graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry Oleg Shakhno. Based on the results of the challenge, Oleg Shakhno received a third degree diploma.
