30 July 2026
Today, July 29, Professor Igor Kachanov, Head of the Department of Hydrotechnical and Power Engineering, Water Transport, and Hydraulics, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, celebrates his 80th birthday.
Igor Vladimirovich began his professional development at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. In 1969, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology with a degree in Machines and Technologies for Metal Forming, receiving the qualification of mechanical engineer. The scientist's pursuit of new knowledge and expanding his expertise has always been a constant: in 2006, he successfully graduated from the shipbuilding department of the Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University, earning a degree in marine engineering.
At BNTU, Igor Vladimirovich rose through the ranks, from assistant to department head. His creative energy and foresight significantly expanded the university's educational offerings. With his active participation, the professor pioneered such sought-after specialties as "shipbuilding and technical operation of water transport" and "water transport vehicles." Furthermore, Igor Vladimirovich made a significant contribution to the creation of the Center for Technical Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Machines.
Igor Kachanov's scientific authority is unconditionally recognized by the academic community. Over the years, he has served as the director of 12 state research programs and currently serves as the chairman of the Dissertation Defense Council for the Dissertation Council No. 2.05.03. The scientist's high status is further confirmed by the fact that he was twice (in 2007 and 2017) elected as a BNTU delegate to the 1st and 2nd Congresses of Scientists of the Republic of Belarus.
The professor is especially proud of his students and followers. Under Igor Vladimirovich's careful guidance, five candidates of technical sciences and 25 master's degree students were trained, and 30 of his students became winners and laureates of international and national scientific competitions. On behalf of the entire staff of the Belarusian National Technical University, we sincerely thank Igor Vladimirovich for his many years of impeccable work, his invaluable contribution to science, and the training of entire generations of highly qualified specialists. You demonstrate by personal example that true authority is measured not only by intellectual achievements, but also by the ability to explain complex matters in simple terms, and by a sincere concern for each student and employee.
We wish you good health, vivid impressions, and joyful and peaceful days filled with the warmth of loved ones. We are proud to work alongside you, continue the traditions you established, and look forward to many years of fruitful collaboration. Happy anniversary!
