BSU students won the International Mathematical Olympiad among university students
Students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics (APMI) of BSU won the 30th International Mathematical Olympiad among university students (IMC-2023). The gold was won by the freshman Pavel Bernyak, the silver medalists were the freshman Aleksey Gonimar and master's student Anton Suravezhkin. The team leaders were Maxim Vaskovsky, Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics of the FPMI BSU, and Sergey Chernov, Senior Lecturer of this Department. Sergey Chernov also became a member of the international jury of this Olympiad.
The intellectual competition took place from July 31 to August 6, 2023 in Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria). The participants had to solve problems in the field of algebra, geometry, analysis and combinatorics.
In total, IMC-2023 was attended by about 400 students from universities in Austria, Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Iran, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, China, the Netherlands, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Singapore, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, etc.
BSU team has been constantly participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad since 2001 and have won 87 medals in the treasury of awards, including 41 gold ones, 6 Grand Prix and absolute first places. The BSU team twice became the first in the world in the team event.
